MOBILE INTERNET CONNECTIVITY INFRASTRUCTURE sessions
Occasionally connected devices have thus far failed to capture the
imagination. In order for mobile Internet services and devices to
become mainstream, consumers will demand a seamless experience in a
number of diverse locations and environments. In order to deliver
the mobile Internet everywhere, device manufacturers must support
multiple wireless communications standards and operators must be
willing to allow devices to seamlessly transfer between network
technologies. Connectivity sessions will examine wireless
technologies such as WiMax, Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth and other
solutions. These sessions will also allow both operators and device
makers to understand the opportunities and potential pitfalls of
integrating multiple network technologies and how to manage the
complex business environment.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT PROCESSOR / SOC FOR YOUR MOBILE INTERNET DEVICE
The future of the mobile Internet is not just browsing and social
networking, but a whole host of services surrounding location-based
applications, rich video and media content, voice translation, and a
host of processing and graphics-intensive applications. These
applications will increasingly require more powerful processing and
at the same time consumers and OEMs will be demanding more
power-efficient solutions which enable longer battery life and
thinner-lighter designs. Several companies are introducing silicon
solutions designed to power emerging mobile Internet-capable
platforms. These sessions will allow you to evaluate, compare and
contrast solutions from multiple companies and explore solutions.
DEALING WITH MOBILE DESIGN TRADEOFFS
integrating the right features, determining performance, size and
weight as well as level of Integration are just some of the
challenges when developing high performance, pocketable platforms.
Examine solutions to deal with challenging mobile design tradeoffs.
DOES CONVERGENCE HAVE TO EQUAL COMPROMISE?
Converged devices often leave something to be desired. Users
typically end up having to compromise on certain features and
functionality. However, MIDs hold the promise of being able to
deliver best-in-class multimedia, communication and Internet
Experiences. Understand how to develop a no-compromises MID
platform that truly meets consumer expectations.
CREATING RICH USER INTERFACES FOR MOBILE APPLICATIONS
Intuitive and Interactive UI Design will be a key differentiator for
MID device manufacturers as well as delivering a compelling user
experience that inspires consumers. This session will examine
technology solutions to enable the next generation of rich, advanced
user interface experiences. The emergence of advanced mobile
graphics processing, more responsive touch screens, motion sensing
and a host of innovative technologies will enable major advances in
user interface design for mobile Internet-capable designs.
EVOLUTIONARY VS. REVOLUTIONARY DEVELOPMENT OF MID PLATFORMS
Mobile Internet Devices are developing along two distinct tracks:
Revolutionary and Evolutionary. Developers of mobile phones,
portable media players, portable gaming consoles and portable
navigation devices are beginning to integrate features that will
transform these devices into mobile Internet powerhouses.
Alternatively traditional PC and CE manufacturers are developing
MIDs from the ground up. Understand which of these will ultimately
be the most successful and how these platforms are evolving.
FUTURE-PROOFING MOBILE INTERNET DEVICES
Device manufacturers and operators should plan on mobile internet
devices being in the field for several years. Understand what steps
need to be taken in order to ensure successful deployment and field
upgradeability without having to invest in new hardware platforms.
As mobile internet services, applications and usage models evolve,
devices in the field must be capable of comprehending new
communications technologies and supporting new applications and
services. Understand some of the hardware and software solutions
that will provide future-proofing for your mobile internet
platforms.
MID PLATFORM DESIGN
With first generation MID platforms already emerging, OEMs must
place their bets now on the right mix of technologies which will
power the next generation MID products. Processing, graphics,
communications, memory, storage, I/O, display, input, battery, etc.
All are critical decisions which will impact the success or failure
of MID platform design. Hear from a diverse set of technology
companies on revolutionary technologies and solutions which will
power MID platforms.
INNOVATIVE AND EMERGING mobile internet APPLICATIONS
many usage cases, geographical and cultural differences,
connectivity options, usage models, etc…there will be a diverse set
of applications which can be developed for the mobile internet.
Emerging application sessions will focus on helping developers,
platform architects and strategic planners develop innovative and
unique mobile internet applications and devices. Understand the
best practices and principals for building robust mobile
applications.
